| Eliane Chagas was appointed Arterial Network's Country representative for Benin at the Arterial network conference in Johannesburg, September 2009. The 3rd Festival of Universal Theatre for Children and Young FUTEJ / ZOGBODOtook place from 9 to 13 April 2009, sponsored by the Ministry of Microfinance for Employment of Women and Youth in Benin. This 3rd edition also had the support of the Fund for Culture. During this period, Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin, and Porto Novo, the political capital, has become a platform of theatre for children. The festival hosted theatre professionals from Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Togo and Benin. Several activities have furnished the work of the festival, including public entertainment for children in the various fields of culture. Tchiff, painter Béninois has had children exploring painting and drawing, while Alain Godonou, Director of the Ecole du Patrimoine Africain (which is a major partner of the event) has developed a focus on networking companies in Africa. Etoundi Zéyang, representative of ASSITEJ Cameroon, came to speak about the benefits of being a part of ASSITEJ International. On the artistic side of the festival, the story took an important part with its declensions: mime storytelling, theatrical storytelling and street theatre. Each company used their talents to enliven the audience of children at every show. For this edition, the actress Unless of the company Yéléman from Ivory Coast, has been attracting children, as she played in the popular television series "My Family". |
