Maitisong Festival
Maitisong (‘place of entertainment' in Setswana) is the theatre built by Maru-a-Pula School in 1986 to serve both the school and the community. It is in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. It is the only theatre to have been purpose built since Independence in 1966. It is the site of an annual festival of theatre performances, which in 2009 ran from 16 March to 5 April.Performances included Circus of Dreams, directed by Aldo Brincat (ideal entertainment for the whole family using combination of Live Music, Magic, Mime, Dance, Special Performance Skills and Juggling), Voice of Life presented by YOHO (a variety show production by youth health organisation (YOHO), about living with HIV Aids, told by Botswana's most talented and renowned artists through storytelling, drama music, poetry and comedy), Clockwork written by Philip Pullman and adapted to the stage by Garth Kitching, and Happy. Period. As in Full Stop (a play about the pursuit of happiness by young women living in present day Africa).
