| Graceland Project A theatre company from Potsdam, Germany is dramatizing a novel calledGraceland which deals with African teenagers. It is set in Nigeria and was written by Nigerian expat, Chris Abani, and is about a teenage Elvis-impersonator, in Lagos. They are planning to accompany the play-project with some other activities, including a video exchange with Assitej Nigeria, with young people from Nigeria being involved in enacting the play and reacting to it. This project is currently underway. UWA Project Uwa is a melodrama designed to address the current climatic phenomenon (global warming), which rages so fierce that the entire world is thrown into panic. It is a display of Remymartin Akifor's light paintings revealing the pains of our perishing earth with poems and series of songs rendition. The play hopes that the consciousness of this reality will awaken humanity into action to save the planet. The one-person performance comes with a combination of well- choreographed Africa dance and movement. The play is written by Stanley Aneto and choreographed by Dayo of Jodie Dance Centre. UWA premiered in March 2009. Assitej Nigeria has intentions of doing a world tour with the project with the aim of joining the campaign for the stopping of global warming through the arts. |
